IO Interactive, the studio behind the highly anticipated game 007 First Light, has unveiled fresh details regarding their take on James Bond. Players can anticipate an expansive and immersive narrative set within the iconic MI6 universe.
In a recent installment of their “Beyond the Light” development series, the creators delved into the portrayal of Bond and other familiar figures from the world of espionage. They emphasized that the game will deliver a comprehensive adventure with a cohesive storyline, rather than merely a collection of impressive action sequences.
A fundamental decision for the development team was to craft an entirely original story for the legendary agent.
“Creating an original story for Bond is an intriguing challenge. We are taking the traits that people have loved for over 60 years… but the question is: how did he get there? How did he become that confident, ‘know-it-all’ person? It’s a journey, a character development path he must undergo.”
The developers also highlighted a significant departure from traditional Bond portrayals: the Bond in 007 First Light will be notably more communicative. This design choice is inherently tied to the video game format, where the player is constantly alongside the protagonist, experiencing his comments and reactions firsthand.
“In our version, Moneypenny is a field analyst; she will be in contact with Bond. There’s much more conversation happening between them. Traditionally, Bond speaks very little. In our game, he speaks more – because he’s younger, but also because you, the player, are constantly with him… Sometimes it’s even funnier: leaping out of a window is better when someone is telling you not to.”
The creators underscored their ambition to build a rich, interconnected world and foster deep relationships between characters. Moneypenny will be more intimately involved in the unfolding events, while Q and other figures like Greenway will reveal diverse aspects of intelligence work, gradually shaping the iconic Bond agent that fans recognize and cherish.
