1047 Games (Splitgate Dev) Announces New Movement Shooter Inspired by Titanfall & Black Ops 3

1047 Games, the acclaimed studio known for the arena shooter Splitgate, has officially confirmed the development of a new project. The announcement, made during the recent Splitgate: Arena Reloaded season 2 update, reveals that the studio is expanding its horizons beyond its initial success.

Ian Proulx, CEO of 1047 Games, shared the studio’s long-held ambition to become a multi-game developer. While expressing deep affection for Splitgate, which he considers his favorite game, Proulx acknowledged its inspirations from classics like Halo and Portal. He then disclosed that a dedicated, smaller team has begun work on a distinct new title.

While specific details remain scarce, Proulx described the upcoming game as a “movement shooter” and explicitly invited enthusiasts of games such as Titanfall and Black Ops 3 to get involved. This suggests a focus on dynamic gameplay and advanced player mobility.

The original Splitgate, often dubbed a “Halo plus Portal” experience, proved to be a surprise hit, leading to a significant $100 million funding round in 2021 and fueling CEO Proulx’s ambition to rival major studios. However, its successor, Splitgate 2, encountered difficulties. Beyond a controversial moment involving a “Make FPS Great Again” cap at a game event, the game itself struggled to find its footing. Less than two months after its initial launch, 1047 Games reverted it to a beta state and conducted layoffs, signaling a need for reassessment.

Splitgate 2 was later relaunched as Splitgate: Arena Reloaded, but it never recaptured the peak player engagement of the original. Consequently, the studio is now clearly focusing on this fresh venture.

Further details are expected to emerge soon, as 1047 Games plans to commence playtesting for the new movement shooter. Interested players are encouraged to sign up for early access.
